Job summary

Boys & Girls Club Of the Northern Plains in Elkton, SD is seeking a Lead Youth Development Professional to create a safe, engaging environment for children in grades K-5 and to guide their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

You will plan activities, supervise staff, manage relationships with families, assist with budgets, and build reports while upholding club values of excellence and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with youth.
• Strong communication, patience, creativity, and a passion for working with young children.
• Management/Supervisory Experience.
• Commitment to working five days a week during the school year and during the summer.
• Must be able to work within the school year operating hours of the Club.
• Must be able to work within the summer operating hours of the Club.
• Must be able to understand, implement, and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
• Must be able to provide leadership, on-the-spot and reflective feedback, and supervision to assigned employees to ensure they too understand and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Create weekly programming plans that promote continued education, creativity, and social skills for K-5th.
• Ensure safety and well-being by maintaining a secure, inclusive environment.
• Supervise activities, meals, and playtime.
• Guide children with positive reinforcement and developmentally appropriate strategies.
• Support development milestones and structured learning experiences.
• Open and close program spaces as needed.
• Maintain an engaging, clean, orderly classroom with readily available resources.
• Collaborate with staff, teachers, aides, and administrators for a cohesive program.
• Promote inclusivity respecting diverse backgrounds of children and families.
• Assist with interviewing, hiring and disciplining of staff as assigned.
• Supervise employees, including 60-day reviews and weekly/bi-weekly meetings.
• Build relationships with families through regular communication.
• Assist with budget tracking for programming and reporting.
