Job summary

South Oaks in Cedar Rapids is seeking an entry-level Youth Counselor for our QRTP program, working with girls aged 12–17. You provide structure, support, encouragement, and positive relationships as they pursue individual goals.

You’ll stay calm on tough days, set healthy boundaries, and return tomorrow ready to try again. A High School Diploma or GED is required; 21+; Bachelor’s preferred; some experience with children is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old and have a High School Diploma or GED.
• A Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field is preferred.
• Desire to help kids succeed.
• Prior experience with children in a school or mental health settings is a plus.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Basic computer skills in MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Provide structure, support, encouragement, and positive relationships for girls ages 12–17.
• Help youth develop skills, strengthen relationships, and cope with emotions.
• Assist youth toward individual goals and future success.
• Stay calm during difficult moments and follow through with boundaries.
