Job summary

The Washtenaw Intermediate School District is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support professional staff in implementing individualized programs for young adult students in Adult Service classrooms across Washtenaw County. You will collaborate with staff, families, and community partners under the teacher’s direction.

Responsibilities include assisting with IEP goals, promoting independence, monitoring health and behavior, and supporting inclusive instruction in community-based settings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Highly Qualified status preferred (Associates degree, 60 hours of college credits, MTTC Basic Skills, or ETS).
• Experience with young adult students with moderate to severe disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher with implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and supporting student progress.
• Support student independence and functional skills in classroom and community-based settings.
• Monitor student health needs and follow directions from licensed staff.
• Promote positive behavior and respectful communication with students, families, and staff.
• Assist with preparing instructional materials and maintaining classroom organization.
