Job summary

Washtenaw Intermediate School District is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support personalized student programs in Young Adult Classrooms across Washtenaw County. You will assist classroom teachers and collaborate with staff, families, and adult service agencies to implement IEP goals and provide student-centered instruction.

The role emphasizes equity, inclusion, and professional development, with responsibilities ranging from materials prep to progress documentation, in a school-based setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Highly Qualified status preferred (Associates degree, 60 college hours, MTTC Basic Skills, or ETS).
• Experience with young adult students with moderate/severe disabilities is preferred.
• Experience working with families, community resources, or adult services is valued.
• Experience with occupational training and community-based instruction is preferred.
• Ability to apply Non-Violent Crisis Intervention techniques and behavior strategies.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing individualized education programs under teacher supervision.
• Support students in classroom and community settings with small and large groups.
• Monitor health needs and perform related care tasks as directed by staff.
• Promote positive student behavior and reinforce school policies.
• Prepare instructional materials and maintain classroom organization.
• Document student progress and support data collection efforts objectively.
• Collaborate with families, staff, and community resources to support goals.
• Participate in professional development and district activities.
