Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking an After School Program Leader in Bowie, MD. The role supports the School Age Child Care program by assisting the Director and Lead staff with daily operations, planning activities, and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for children.

Responsibilities include implementing the curriculum, communicating with families, and maintaining a well-organized classroom.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED; CDA within 18 months of employment.
• Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test.
• Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting.
• Must meet county/state licensing requirements.
• Ability to relate to parents, school staff and children with a positive, creative attitude.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily operations of the program under the guidance of supervisory staff.
• Plan, develop and implement before/after school activities per YMCA curriculum.
• Communicate with families and ensure equipment and supplies are available.
• Establish structure and routines for children and set behavior guidelines.
• Ensure safety of children and understand emergency procedures.
• Attend parent/child events as required.
• Maintain an attractive and clean classroom.

About the Job

The Program Leader position is responsible for assisting the School Age Child Care Director/Site Director/Senior Group Leader in the daily operations of the program. Responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all the before and after school activities under the guidelines of the YMCA School Age Curriculum. Assists in oversight of all program activities, communicating with families and ensuring all equipment and supplies are available.

Some of the exciting things you will do as a Program Leader include but are not limited to:

• Implements the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA, the School Age Curriculum (i.e. Creative curriculum)
• Effectively carries out appropriate lesson plans
• Establishes structure and routines for children setting boundaries and behavior guidelines
• Responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary
• Attends parent/child events as required
• Effectively communicates with parents throughout the program year
• Maintains an attractive and clean classroom at all times

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Working Conditions
