At Telcom Construction, a Yard Laborer is responsible for assisting the Inventory Specialist with on-site yard and materials support.

What you’ll do as a Yard Laborer

  • Participate in all phases of underground construction, including but not limited to: loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal, and placement of various types, sizes, and weights of construction materials and equipment
  • Assist the Inventory Specialist with staging materials for specific jobs
  • Help maintain the location’s inventory, reconcile physical inventory, and offload/load trucks
  • Track, receive, and verify new material shipments; coordinate handling and storage upon arrival
  • Maintain organization of inventory
  • Keep the shop and yard area clean and orderly
  • Assist with inventory counts
  • Follow all safety regulations, procedures, and policies to maintain safe working conditions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you’ll need

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Effective communication skills for one-on-one and small group interactions
  • Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in various units of measure
  • Reasoning ability to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions
  • Problem-solving skills involving multiple variables in standardized situations
  • Knowledge of internet software, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing
  • Current DOT health card
  • Forklift certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; Class A preferred
  • Travel may be required

Physical abilities & exposures

  • Wear required personal protective equipment
  • Sit, stand, or walk frequently
  • Stand, kneel, squat, bend, and twist on concrete surfaces
  • Use hearing and sight regularly
  • Work occasionally in adverse weather conditions
  • Lift up to 50 lbs regularly; occasionally up to 75 lbs
  • Work in a loud environment
