Job summary

Daytona State College's Writing Center seeks student tutors to assist clients with writing at any level, explain concepts, and help improve communication and citation skills. You will arrive on time for daily sessions and complete post-tutoring reports in TracCloud.

This opportunity supports Federal Work Study and Institutional Work Study funding, offers up to 20 hours per week, Monday–Friday with flexible scheduling, and requires enrollment in at least 6 credits and SAP or 2.0 GPA.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits.
• Must currently be meeting SAP, or a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
• Transient and Dual Enrollment students are not eligible for student employment.

Responsibilities

• Tutors’ writers at any level of proficiency on any type or stage of writing
• Arrive and begin tutoring sessions daily and on time
• Write post-tutoring reports in TracCloud
• Review resources as requested or when not seeing clients
• Actively participate in trainings and meetings by asking questions and brainstorming solutions
• Bring questions or concerns about sessions to the Associate Director, Coordinator, or Writing Specialists
• Assist the Writing Center staff with other tasks as needed
• Work on Writing Center relevant projects/task when not tutoring
• Ability to explain writing concepts to help clients improve their communication skills
• Have an interest in writing and be familiar with academic writing conventions, including citation styles, grammar, and organization
• Must be empathetic, caring, and able to respond to client's anxiety about writing
• Have fundamental digital literacy
• Preferably knowledgeable of MS Office, relevant academic software, and DSC technology-based resources like Falcon Online
• Must be in good academic standing
• Must possess good time management skills
