Job summary

Barry University, Center for Academic Support and Advising (CASA) is seeking a part-time Writing Center Tutor to support undergraduate and graduate students in the Writing Center. The role involves tutoring about 10–15 hours per week, primarily on Mondays through Saturdays.

The tutor will provide one-on-one and small-group sessions, assess writing needs, and deliver targeted instructional feedback while documenting progress in the center’s systems and participating in professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in English Composition and Rhetoric; English Education required.
• Master’s Degree in English Composition and Rhetoric; English Education preferred.
• 3–5 years of related experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software; ability to enter data into spreadsheets/databases.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Identify students’ writing skills needs; differentiate strategies and materials to meet individual needs.
• Provide students with specific feedback on higher- and lower-order errors.
• Guide students in recognizing and repairing lower-order errors.
• Engage students in tutoring sessions with active learning strategies.
• Document student work and progress in Writing Center systems; enter data in a timely fashion.
• Participate in professional development and staff meetings; maintain currency in content area.
• Serve as a proctor for student placement testing; maintain currency with instructional resources.
