Job summary

Texas Wesleyan University’s ASC Writing Center is seeking a part-time ASC Writing Tutor (Work Study or Student Assistant). You will provide one-on-one or small-group writing tutoring, maintain a weekly schedule, and attend required training.

You will keep tutoring reports, coordinate with professors for materials, assist with formatting, citations, grammar, and punctuation, and help with front desk duties and scheduling as needed. Strong communication and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completed courses in subject area tutoring with an A or B.
• Demonstrate grammar and proofreading skills with a minimum test score.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 (Director may make exceptions).
• Formal or informal tutoring experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a weekly schedule of tutoring hours for appointments.
• Attend tutor training workshops as required.
• Keep accurate records of tutoring appointments via tutoring reports.
• Coordinate with professors to obtain materials for tutoring.
• Assist students with writing tasks: topic selection, formatting, citations, grammar, punctuation.
• Tutoring supports students to become better writers.
• Assist with front desk coverage, scheduling, answering phones, and organizing materials.
