Summary

We are prioritizing hiring instructors for our high-demand short-term Workforce Training courses listed below:

  • Human Resource Development (to teach courses at Johnston Correctional Institution)
  • Carpentry (NCCER Curriculum at Johnston Correctional Institution)
  • Electrical Wiring (at Johnston Correctional Institution)

Workforce Training & Community Program Instructors will instruct classes associated with career/employability skill development and personal enrichment/community related classes in their field of experience. The instructor will be responsible for providing classroom instruction; evaluating student performance and maintaining accurate documentation as required.

Knowledge & Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide instruction and conducts activities to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Completes forms pertaining to registration and attendance records.
  • Prepares lesson plans, course overviews and course syllabi.
  • Selects appropriate learning material for assigned classes.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Education Minimum: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED). Equivalent to the needs of the class of instruction.
  • Experience Minimum: One (1) to Three (3) years of relevant experience in the field of the related class.

The average noise level in the work environment is typical of a community college setting with various classes taking place simultaneously, but can depend on specific events scheduled and the nature of the class.

Johnston Community College typically operates on a Monday – Thursday schedule from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

In addition, from mid-May – early August, the College operates on a forty-hour work week from Monday – Thursday, with the College closed on Fridays.

Workforce Training & Community Programs Instructor schedules will depend on the class schedule.
