Job summary

Laurel Ridge Community College is seeking an Adjunct Workforce Instructor for the Workforce Mechatronics Program. You will deliver both classroom and hands-on instruction preparing students for entry-level roles in advanced manufacturing and automation. The ideal candidate has industry experience and credentials in mechatronics or related fields.

Prior teaching is not required; experience is valued. Classes meet evenings, typically two evenings per week for 4–6 weeks, at multiple campus

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, hands-on, and classroom instruction in all aspects of mechatronics and industrial automation.
• Teach students theory, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems.
• Instruct students in safe use of hand tools, PPE, and testing equipment.
• Demonstrate industry best practices related to safety, quality, productivity, and preventive maintenance.
• Develop students’ workplace readiness skills including teamwork, communication and reliability.
• Assess student performance through demonstrations, evaluations, and coursework.
• Maintain training facilities, equipment, and materials in safe, operational condition.

Each Mechatronics course meets two evenings per week for 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the course content and program requirements. Adjunct instructors’ schedules may vary based on cohort instructional needs and instructor availability. All classes are held during evening hours.

The Adjunct Workforce Instructor will serve as an instructor for the Workforce Mechatronics Program. This position is responsible for delivering both classroom and hands‑on instruction that prepares students for entry‑level careers in advanced manufacturing, industrial maintenance, automation, and related industries.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, promote teamwork, emphasize workplace safety, and provide students with practical, industry‑relevant training. Instruction may include topics such as mechanical systems, electrical systems, automation, robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics, motor controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and troubleshooting techniques.

The successful candidate must be considered proficient in the following areas of mechatronics, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, automation, electrical maintenance, robotics, or a related field. While prior teaching experience is beneficial, it is not required. Professional experience and relevant industry certifications are highly valued. Primary Responsibilities For The Role

• Deliver engaging, hands‑on, and classroom instruction in all aspects of mechatronics and industrial automation.
• Teach students the theory, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems.
• Instruct students in the safe and proper use of hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Demonstrate industry best practices related to safety, quality, productivity, and preventive maintenance.
• Develop students’ workplace readiness skills, including teamwork, communication, problem‑solving, reliability, and professional conduct.
• Assess student performance through practical demonstrations, skills evaluations, and coursework.
• Maintain training facilities, equipment, laboratory tools, and instructional materials in safe and operational condition.
• Mentor and support students by providing constructive feedback and guidance throughout the program.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, student progress, and competency assessments.
• Participate in instructor training, certification, and professional development activities as required.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this role is $65.00. The position is part‑time and as such cannot exceed 29 hours per week and is not eligible for health or leave benefits.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Additional Considerations

• Previous teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring experience, particularly in adult education or workforce development settings.
• Technical diploma, apprenticeship completion, or related credentials in Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Automation, or a related discipline.
• Industry certifications such as Siemens, FANUC, OSHA, NC3, MSSC CPT, PMMI, Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell, or other relevant manufacturing and automation credentials.
• Experience working with advanced manufacturing technologies and automated production systems.
