Job description

Overview

Brightpoint Community College, a two-year public institution in the Greater Richmond area, is seeking an Adjunct Instructor in Robotics and Mechatronic Systems. The role supports classroom and laboratory instruction in sensors and actuators, industrial automation, robotic kinematics, microcontrollers, PLCs, control systems, and system integration. Instruction will be hands‑on and application‑focused to prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing, automation, and engineering technology.

Responsibilities

The instructor will:
• Deliver instructional content for foundational and applied topics in robotics and mechatronic systems.
• Facilitate both classroom and laboratory sessions.
• Develop and grade assignments, projects, and examinations.
• Engage students in active, hands‑on learning and practical problem solving.

Qualifications & KSA’s
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following: sensors, actuators, and system instrumentation; robotics fundamentals, robotic arms and kinematics; mechatronic systems and electromechanical integration; microcontrollers, PLCs, embedded systems, or industrial controls.
  • Ability to provide effective classroom and laboratory instruction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support diverse student populations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple instructional responsibilities and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate best practices in teaching engineering or technical courses in a community college environment.
Additional Considerations

Teaching or industry experience in robotics, mechatronics, automation, or related engineering technology fields is desirable. Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar is also preferred.
