Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active license in Illinois (Missouri for St. Louis); Wisconsin is a plus.
  • Experience handling workers’ compensation matters in Illinois, Missouri, or Wisconsin, including depositions, hearings, trials, and appeals.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable with case management, legal billing, transcription, and legal research software.
  • Organized, self-directed, and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a workers’ compensation caseload from intake through resolution, collaborating with employers and partners on defense strategy.
  • Maintain up-to-date and organized case files using electronic case management software.
  • Maintain regular and accurate accounting of billable time.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through accessibility and timely updates.
  • Appear for pre-trials, trials, and appeals before relevant workers’ compensation commissions and civil/appellate courts.
  • Conduct direct and cross-examinations of medical experts and other witnesses in depositions.
  • Draft defense litigation reports, pleadings, and related legal documents.

BCM Law, P.C. is seeking experienced Workers’ Compensation Defense attorney candidates to join our collaborative and growing Chicago, Bloomington-Normal, and St. Louis offices. Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Licensed and in good standing in Illinois (and Missouri for the St. Louis office); admission in Wisconsin is a plus
  • Experience handling workers’ compensation matters in Illinois, Missouri, or Wisconsin, including depositions, hearings, trials, and appeals
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Comfortable with case management, legal billing, transcription, and legal research software
  • Organized, self-directed, and comfortable managing competing priorities and meeting time-sensitive deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel as needed for hearings, depositions, and client meetings
  • Portable book of business welcomed, but not required
Responsibilities
  • Manage a workers’ compensation caseload from intake through resolution, with opportunities to collaborate with employers on investigations and with partners on defense strategy, case development, and complex legal issues
  • Maintain up-to-date and organized case files through electronic case management software
  • Maintain regular and accurate accounting of billable time
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through accessibility, clear communication, and timely case updates and reporting
  • Appear regularly for pre-trials, trials, and appeals before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, Missouri Division of Workers’ Compensation, Workers’ Compensation Division of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, and applicable civil and appellate courts
  • Conduct direct and cross-examinations of medical experts and other witnesses in evidence depositions
  • Draft initial defense litigation reports, pleadings, independent medical examination letters, claim review reports, briefs, and other legal documents

Compensation & Work Arrangement

The preliminary salary range is $80,000–$110,000, negotiable and commensurate with years licensed, demonstrated workers’ compensation defense litigation skills, and trial experience, with opportunities for semi-annual bonuses.

Final compensation will be determined based on individual background, directly transferable skills, and overall fit, with additional compensation and market-competitive consideration for Partner-level candidates.

The Attorney will initially work in-office at our Chicago, Bloomington-Normal, or St. Louis office and may transition to a hybrid/remote work arrangement following completion of initial onboarding and requisite training and demonstrated adoption of the firm’s practices and expectations.
