Job summary

The role leads new business development, risk selection, pricing discipline, and agency relationship management within delegated authority, collaborating with internal teams to meet territory objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.
• 3–5 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience preferred, workers compensation underwriting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience managing agency relationships, producer pipelines, territory plans, or assigned books of business.
• Professional insurance designation such as CPCU, ARM, AU, CIC or equivalent coursework preferred but not required.
• Strong technical knowledge of workers' compensation underwriting, including exposure analysis, loss history review, and pricing.

Responsibilities

• Owns an assigned agency territory and book of business with accountable profitability and renewal retention.
• Evaluates workers compensation submissions using class codes, payroll, loss runs, and experience modification factors.
• Makes underwriting decisions within authority and escalates higher risk.
• Prices new and renewal business per guidelines balancing growth and profitability.
• Develops agency partnership plans and manages pipeline and performance.
• Conducts agency visits and producer meetings to communicate appetite and strategy.
• Identifies opportunities to expand profitable workers compensation production through channels.
• Presents proposals, explains underwriting choices, and discusses coverage terms.
• Maintains knowledge of territory, market trends, and regulatory considerations.
• Collaborates with claims, loss control, audit, and operations to support portfolio quality.
