Job summary

CopperPoint Insurance Companies is seeking a Workers Compensation Production Underwriter in New York to manage an agency territory and book of business, focusing on profitable growth, renewal retention, and strong customer service. You will lead new business development, risk selection, pricing, and agency relationships within delegated authority.

The role collaborates with underwriting leadership, claims, loss control, and operations to execute territory strategies and achieve business

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, risk management, marketing or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
3–5 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience preferred, with workers compensation experience strongly preferred.
Experience managing agency relationships, pipelines, territory plans or assigned books of business preferred.
Professional designation such as CPCU/ARM/AU/CIC preferred but not required.
Strong technical knowledge of workers' compensation underwriting, including pricing and risk selection.

Responsibilities

Own an assigned agency territory and book of business with profitable growth and renewal retention.
Underwrite and analyze submissions using class codes, exposures, payroll, and experience mods.
Make underwriting decisions within authority and escalate when needed.
Price new and renewal business per guidelines balancing growth and profitability.
Develop and manage agency partnership plans and performance opportunities.
Conduct regular agency visits and producer meetings to align on strategy and commitments.
Identify opportunities to expand profitable workers’ comp production via distribution channels.
Present proposals to agency staff with clear underwriting rationale and terms.
Maintain knowledge of territory production sources, competitors, and trends.
Collaborate with claims, loss control, audit, and operations to support portfolio quality.
Provide high service levels and maintain documentation per policies.
