Job summary

Des Moines Area Community College seeks a student mascot to embody Mac the Bear on the Boone Campus, promoting DMACC spirit at campus and athletics events and engaging with attendees, including children.

The role requires a current DMACC student (12+ credits), a GPA of 2.5+, and the ability to fit the mascot costume and manage the ~50 lb outfit for extended periods. 20 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Must be a current, full‑time DMACC student taking at least 12 credits.
• Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Must be physically able to fit within the mascot costume size (ideal height between 5’7" and 6’2") and support the weight of the costume (approximately 50 lbs.).
• Must demonstrate enthusiasm and charisma, interpersonal and communication skills, reliability and professionalism, adaptability and problem-solving, and a genuine passion for DMACC.

Job Summary

The work study program provides funds for part‑time employment to help students finance the costs of postsecondary education. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity for employment arranged around class schedules, while providing essential services to the College and the community.
