Job summary

Maryland Department of Human Services is seeking a Work Activity Coordinator in Calvert County to analyze participant data, support career goals, and place customers into key job-readiness efforts.

Qualifications

  • Four years of professional or technical experience in the administration of a human services program or experience conducting studies and analyses of programs, procedures, practices and organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Administrative Officer classifications may substitute on a year-for-year basis.

  • Provide targeted referrals to internal initiatives, such as the Paid Internship Program and the PA2E Program.
  • Maintain precise documentation, including participant records, progress notes, and employment outcome tracking.
  • Represent the organization at community outreach initiatives, including job fairs and youth engagement events.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this role is to analyze customer data, work plans, and employment goals to ensure participants actively engage in required activities and successfully overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. In this position, the incumbent is responsible for placing customers into key job-readiness and employment initiatives while maintaining seamless cross-system data accuracy within the WORKS and E&E (Eligibility & Enrollment) databases. Additionally, the Work Activity Coordinator actively supports participants throughout their career journeys by securing vital supportive resources, identifying relevant training programs, and connecting customers with sustainable employment opportunities. To foster a relationship built on trust and encouragement, this individual will meet with customers on a regular basis, both in the office and out in the community, to monitor and review their work plan progress.

Position Duties
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify participant needs and develop individualized career plans.
  • Provide targeted referrals to established internal initiatives, such as the Paid Internship Program, and the PA2E Program.
  • Maintain precise documentation, including participant records, detailed progress notes, and employment outcome tracking.
  • Represent the organization at community outreach initiatives, including job fairs, career planning expos, community support events, food distribution drives, youth engagement nights, and Office on Aging events.
Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Four years of professional or technical experience in the administration of a human services program or experience conducting studies and analyses of programs, procedures, practices and organizations.

Notes
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Administrative Officer classifications or Administrative Officer specialty codes in the General, Administrative, Clerical, and Office Services job field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Desired Or Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience working in a Family Investment program.
  • One year experience in workforce development providing training, job coaching and employment support to customers.
  • One year experience building and maintaining partnership with community organizations.
  • One year experience using computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel or Google Docs and Sheets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse populations and community partner organizations.
Limitations on Selection
  • Recruitment is limited to candidates willing to work in Calvert County, MD.
Licences, Registrations and Certifications

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Benefits

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
