Job summary

State of Nebraska is hiring winter temporary Highway Maintenance Workers for Lincoln & surrounding areas. The role involves snow removal, winter operations, and operating heavy equipment to keep roads safe during winter months.

Starting pay is $20.39 per hour with CDL holders starting at $21.95. Positions cover Auburn, Beatrice, David City, Dorchester, Fairbury, Falls City, Greenwood, Lincoln, Nebraska City, Palmyra, Pawnee City, Seward, Tecumseh and Wahoo until March 31, 2027.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Highway Maintenance Worker must be 18+ and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Senior: 18+, CDL Class A or B with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment.
• Preferred: Valid CDL Class A or B and experience operating heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Help with Winter Operations.
• Perform snow removal.
• Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Move, drag, lift, load, unload equipment, materials, and hazardous items within weight limits.
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
