Job summary

The State of Nebraska is hiring winter temporary Highway Maintenance Workers for Lincoln and surrounding areas. This is a temporary winter position, ending March 31, 2027, with potential for longer-term opportunities based on performance.

Starting pay is $20.390 per hour; with a current CDL you start at $21.953 per hour. Positions cover Auburn, Beatrice, David City, Dorchester, Fairbury, Falls City, Greenwood, Lincoln, Nebraska City, Palmyra, Pawnee City, Seward, Tecumseh and Wahoo.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements required within 60 days of employment.
• Preferred qualifications include a valid CDL and experience operating heavy equipment.
• May require out-of-town, overnight travel; regular attendance and ability to report outside hours for emergencies within 40 minutes.
• Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: able to move/lift 35–90 pounds and work near high-speed traffic.

Responsibilities

• Help with Winter Operations.
• Perform snow removal.
• Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Move, lift, load, and unload equipment/materials from roadway.
