Job summary

The State of Nebraska is hiring Winter Temporary Highway Maintenance Workers for Lincoln and surrounding areas. You will support winter operations and ensure highway safety in multiple locations.

Starting pay is $20.390 per hour; those with a current CDL start at $21.953 per hour. This is a temporary winter position through March 31, 2027, with hours dependent on weather. Applicants must be at least 18 and have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
• CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements required within 60 days of employment.
• Preferred: a valid Class A or B CDL and experience operating heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Help with Winter Operations.
• Perform snow removal.
• Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Move, load, and unload equipment, materials, and hazardous materials within weight limits.
• Spread surfacing materials and perform other duties as assigned.
