Job summary

Stray Grape Urban Winery in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Wine Server for the tasting room to guide tastings, share our story, and provide warm, accurate service in a busy retail setting. You will upsell bottles, club memberships, and snacks, manage a quick, friendly checkout on a tablet POS, verify IDs, and help with restocking and events while maintaining hospitality standards.

This role requires a smile, teamwork, and the ability to stay composed during rushes; previous wine or hospitality

Qualifications

• Experience in tasting room, bar, restaurant, or retail hospitality.
• Clear, upbeat communication with guests and teammates.
• Sales mindset with upselling and closing.
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for shifts.
• TABC certification required (or obtain within 30 days).
• Food Handler certification a plus.

About the roleAs a Wine Server, you create memorable guest experiences—guiding tastings, sharing our story, and ensuring smooth, accurate checkout. You’ll balance warm hospitality with fast, detail-oriented service in a lively retail setting.

What you’ll do

• Welcome & host guests; lead tastings and flights with confident, friendly wine education (approachable, not snobby).
• Sell with purpose: recommend bottles, club memberships, and add-ons (merch, snacks) to meet daily sales goals.
• Run the register: operate POS quickly and accurately (open tabs, split checks, apply discounts, redeem club benefits).
• Verify & comply: check IDs; follow TABC and house policies for responsible service.
• Service standards: maintain clean, stocked bars; polish glassware; reset tasting areas between parties.
• Product readiness: restock shelves, rotate inventory, and assist with counts to keep items in stock and looking great.
• Resolve issues with empathy and urgency; esc
• Team play: support events, large groups, and side work; help with opening/closing checklists and cash handling.
• Brand ambassador: represent our voice on busy days—photo-friendly pours, quick answers, and genuine hospitality.

What you bring

• Experience: tasting room, bar/restaurant, or retail hospitality experience preferred.
• Communication: clear, upbeat, and professional with guests and teammates.
• Sales mindset: comfortable recommending, upselling, and asking for the close.
• Pace & polish: thrive during rushes while keeping service tidy and accurate.
• Tech comfort: quick on a tablet POS (Commerce7 or similar a plus).
• Certifications: TABC (or obtained within 30 days). Food Handler a plus.
• Physical: lift and carry up to 40 lbs (a case of wine); stand/walk for shifts.
