Job summary

Nordex Group in West Branch, IA seeks an Assembly Operator - Mechanical Production Technician for 2nd shift to assemble wind turbine components and support precision manufacturing. You will read engineering drawings, use torque and other tools, and work with cranes to fit gearboxes, shafts, and bearings with a strong safety mindset.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years in mechanical assembly, crane operation and respiratory fit test eligibility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Mechanical certifications or technical training preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical assembly or heavy manufacturing.
• Ability to read work instructions and blueprints.
• Experience in wind turbine, automotive, or industrial equipment assembly.
• Must be able to pass a respiratory fit test and crane operator certification.
• Strong safety and quality focus; able to work in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components of wind turbines using hand tools, power tools, and cranes.
• Follow engineering drawings to ensure accurate builds.
• Torquing, alignment, and fit-up of large components (gearboxes, bearings, shafts).
• Maintain a clean, safe workspace and conduct safety inspections.
• Meet production benchmarks and support team objectives.
• Handle materials by lifting, positioning, and removing them as needed.
• Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to improve processes.
• Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support other production areas as assigned by supervision.
• Assist with root cause analysis and troubleshooting with PQA/Engineering.
• Assist electrical assembly operators as required.
