Job summary

Open New York is seeking a dynamic Westchester Organizing Coordinator to build our Westchester chapter, recruit and engage volunteers, organize events and trainings, and represent Open New York at civic and legislative gatherings.

The ideal candidate will manage day-to-day operations, oversee membership growth, and coordinate member outreach across diverse audiences. Regular travel within Westchester is required, with occasional NYC/Albany visits.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of professional experience with a preference for community engagement and/or organizing experience.
• A creative mindset with a high-level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
• A demonstrated ability to rally a group from all backgrounds around objectives or goals.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to create clear, concise narratives.
• Experience at a grassroots membership organization with hundreds of members.
• Ability to host focus groups, teach-ins, rallies, webinars, and community meetings, and deliver testimony.
• Strong workflow, time-management and organizational skills.
• Flexible, creative and critical thinking to reach goals.
• Team player mentality and passion for Open New York’s mission.

Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the Director of Organizing and our team of Organizing Coordinators, manage day-to-day operations of ONY’s Westchester chapters, including: Oversee volunteer recruitment to grow membership, welcome new members, lead orientations and trainings, organize regular member events, and assist members in organizing meetups.
• Plan and oversee a robust volunteer recruitment program to grow ONY’s membership, including high school students, seniors, and more.
• Track and report on member engagement and re-engage less active members.
• Regularly attend civic meetings and participatory events in Westchester.
• Help plan and execute canvassing events for ONY’s endorsed elected officials.
