Job summary

1199SEIU is seeking a Political Organizer to advance political action campaigns in Westchester County, NY. The role emphasizes organizing, mobilizing, and educating members on policy and electoral issues, with a focus on field activities and coalition-building.

The organizer will recruit and train MPOs, coordinate with divisional staff, and engage with elected officials to promote union priorities. Flexibility for irregular hours including nights and weekends is required.

Qualifications

• Background in union organizing, progressive politics and/or political campaigns with emphasis on field organizing.
• Quick study of electoral districts and representatives.
• Experience with event turnout, volunteer recruitment and mobilization.
• Strong grasp on political, legislative and labor issues and current events.
• Basic computer skills: Word, Outlook, Excel.
• Adequate written and verbal communication including public speaking.

Responsibilities

• Organizing and tracking voter registration and PAC sign-up campaigns.
• Providing support to Organizing staff during campaigns.
• Educating and mobilizing SEIU members around political issues and campaigns.
• Recruiting, training, and growing a cadre of Member Political Organizers and rank-and-file activists.
• Leading teams of members during release programs or campaigns.
• Advocating on behalf of SEIU members with elected officials and community groups; building coalitions.
