Job summary

Old Republic Commercial Risk in Los Angeles seeks a senior leader to oversee Commercial Markets Underwriting in the West region. You will drive profitability, manage P&L including loss and ALAE, and lead a geographically dispersed team of underwriters.

You will collaborate with regional and segment management to design annual and long-range plans that reflect market potential and the territory's workers' compensation climate, while mentoring staff to exceed broker objectives.

Qualifications

• 10+ years commercial casualty underwriting experience and 7+ years management/supervisory experience.
• Strong technical underwriting skills across casualty lines, with emphasis on workers' compensation.
• Excellent presentation and written communication skills.
• Strong management, planning, organizational and analytical abilities.
• Proven track record of building relationships with agents and brokers.
• Proven negotiating skills with growth in a book of business.

Responsibilities

• Lead the leadership and oversight of Commercial Markets Underwriting in the West region.
• Achieve annual profit and revenue objectives and manage P&L including loss and ALAE ratio and pre-tax operating performance.
• Communicate and collaborate with regional and segment management to execute CMU business.
• Develop and implement annual and long-range premium and business plans reflecting territory potential.
• Hire, train and monitor underwriting staff; manage broker assignments to exceed goals and develop staff.
• Lead underwriters located in multiple sites; delegate underwriting authority as needed.
• Ensure underwriting policies and procedures are applied with focus on risk selection and loss analysis.
• Advance CMU Focused Industry Reinforce strategy; develop new account monitoring tools with segment management.
• Serve as industry subject matter expert and keep abreast of developments in the assigned industry.
