Job summary

Old Republic Commercial Risk in Roseville, CA, seeks a strategic leader to head Commercial Markets Underwriting in the West region. You will drive profit, manage a book of business P&L, and align regional plans with market opportunities in casualty lines, including workers’ compensation.

You will recruit, develop and lead underwriters across multiple locations, delegate authority, implement policy, and build strong broker relationships.

Qualifications

• 10+ years commercial casualty underwriting experience and 7+ years management/supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong technical underwriting skills in all casualty lines, particularly workers' compensation.
• Excellent presentation skills and strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong management, planning, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Proven track record of building relationships with agents and brokers.
• Proven negotiating skills with growth in book of business and agency production objectives.
• Proven developer of talent with mentoring for high performance.
• Ability to travel.
• Experience with remote management.
• CPCU, ARM and/or MBA desired.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee Commercial Markets Underwriting in the West region.
• Achieve annual profit and revenue objectives and manage book of business P&L including loss and ALAE ratio.
• Communicate and collaborate with regional and segment management in execution of CMU's business.
• Develop and execute annual and long-range premium and business plans reflecting territory potential.
• Hire, train and develop underwriters; monitor performance and broker assignments.
• Delegate underwriting authority as necessary across locations.
• Implement underwriting policies focused on risk selection and loss analysis.
• Review staffing plans to support objective attainment.
• Advance CMU Focused Industry Reinforce strategy and develop new monitoring tools.
• Stay informed on industry developments and disseminate information to PMA practice and management.
• Ensure Corporate Agency Management Program is executed; monitor profitability of agents/brokers.
• Maintain visibility with agents/brokers and act as quarterback for account management.
• Use analytics to inform decisions and communicate recommendations.
• Demonstrate planning, communication and organizational skills aligned with evolving structure.
• Adhere to Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and comply with policies and laws.
