Job summary

Markon is seeking a Specialized Engineer III to support the Naval Nuclear Laboratory’s Welding Engineering organization at the Bettis site in West Mifflin, PA. The role involves developing and testing repair technologies, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring compliant laboratory operations.

The candidate must have a BS or MS in a related field with several years of relevant experience and an active DOE L clearance. Some travel to vendors and shipyards is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master with relevant experience in welding engineering, materials science, or mechanical engineering.
• Active DOE L clearance required; DoD Secret and above may be considered for clearance transfer.
• Experience making technical presentations.
• Ability to lead and execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.
• Ability to develop, test, evaluate, and qualify repair procedures in a laboratory environment.
• Ability to consult with fabrication vendors and shipyards to facilitate technology transfer.
• Knowledge or experience with repair operations involving SMAW.
• Knowledge of epoxies and composites.
• Knowledge of mechanical and machining processes.
• Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, and engineering standards.
• Ability to plan and execute work programs.
• Ability to design experiments and analyze results.
• Demonstrated ability to execute laboratory work.
• Familiarity with inspection methods.
• Excellent initiative and creativity.

Responsibilities

• Identify, research, test, and evaluate repair technologies with engineering teams.
• Support repair technology development using welding, machining, and industrial processes.
• Plan, follow up, and execute technical work efforts.
• Develop technical instructions and procedures for engineering activities.
• Track procurement actions and budget performance for projects.
• Prepare technical submittals and engineering documentation.
• Support project planning, equipment testing, and deployment at vendors and shipyards.
• Coordinate with Naval Nuclear Laboratory, shipyards, and Naval Reactors HQ.
• Plan and report project performance within the repair technology community.
• Assist in laboratory operations and repair technology development activities.
• Develop, test, evaluate, and qualify repair procedures.
• Consult with fabrication vendors and shipyards to transfer technology.
• Plan and execute work programs and experiments.
• Analyze experimental results and prepare technical reports.
