External Description

ASRC Federal Advanced Research is seeking a Welder I to support the US ARMY Ground Vehicle Systems Center in Warren, Michigan.

AFAR provides technical and mission-oriented services supporting federal agencies, with a team experienced in complex military ground vehicle challenges.

Overview

The Welder will assist in joining metals and support engineers and technicians in designing, developing, and fabricating prototype vehicle structures and platforms based on drawings ranging from sketches to full production plans.

Duties

1. Perform welding, mechanics, fabrication, sheet metal, assembly, analysis, and troubleshooting for vehicle modifications or assembly.
2. Weld ferrous and non-ferrous materials using processes such as GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW, with thicknesses from 1/8" to unlimited.
3. Cut using Oxy/Acetylene, Plasma, and Carbon Arc Gouging; perform welds in various positions.
4. Weld armored steel and metal alloys.
5. Pass onsite qualification tests per AWS D1.1, D1.2, and Ground Combat Vehicle Welding Codes.
6. Fabricate vehicle hulls, turrets, armor cabs, and modifications for vehicles and platforms.
7. Use inspection procedures to ensure conformance with engineering documentation.
8. Collaborate on work pieces from limited information, including reverse engineering.
9. Stand all day and lift up to 45 lbs.
10. Follow safety, environmental, and regulatory standards per ISO 14001.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent, technical certification, or apprenticeship leading to Journeyman status, with at least 8 years of related experience.

Clearance

• Must be a US citizen.
• Active DoD Confidential clearance or ability to obtain one.
