Job summary

JPS Health Network is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist for the Lab Core on Weekend Nights at John Peter Smith Hospital. The MLS performs chemical analyses of specimens across departments, compiling data for diagnosis and treatment, and supports patient care with accurate laboratory results.

Responsibilities include routine and complex testing, quality control, LIS/HIS usage, and training of staff. Requires CLIA-compliant qualifications and ASCP/AMT certification within 1 year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science; or Medical Technology from an accredited college or university.
• Documented evidence that meets qualifications as established by the CLIA ’88 are met.
• Must obtain ASCP or AMT certification within 1 year of employment: MT, MLS, CLS or specialty certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine to complex laboratory tests and analyses of patient specimens for diagnosis and treatment.
• Determines sample acceptability and prepares specimens according to standard methods.
• Performs calibration and preventive maintenance; verifies Quality Control values.
• Prepares slides for microscopic analysis and processes specimens.
• Analyzes results and ensures accuracy based on patient age and specimen criteria.
• Operates LIS/HIS systems and performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic tasks.
• Troubleshoots equipment and reports issues; adheres to regulatory requirements.
• Provides guidance and training to new staff and students.
• May perform special collections and assist in procedure development and inventory.

Education
