Job summary

The Laboratory Support Specialist at John Peter Smith Hospital, part of JPS Health Network, provides clinical operations and technical support in a busy laboratory setting. You will participate in pre-analytical activities, specimen handling, and post-analytic support to ensure accurate results and timely workflow.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy with proper patient ID, specimen transport, inventory control, and collaboration with ED Trauma Services.

Qualifications

• Must be a CPT or CMLA through ASCP, AMT, or NHA.
• Minimum of 2 years as a CPT or CMLA.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen management, transport, tracking, storage and disposal with proper patient identification.
• Transports blood products or supplies to support ED Trauma Services and external customers.
• Comply with Federal, State, and Local regulations including HIPAA and network safety policies.
• Transcribe data and handle specimen processing, phlebotomy and related duties.
• Assist with monitoring pending/overdue lists and documentation (TNP, MSP, QNS).
• Maintain clean, organized work area and laboratory equipment; handle documentation and inquiries.
• Assist with supply monitoring, inventory, and cross-shift communication.
• Maintain customer service levels and participate in service recovery when needed.
• May perform waived or moderately complex testing per procedures and regulatory requirements.
