Job summary

Kelly Services in Chicago Heights, IL, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment in a food manufacturing setting.

You'll work weekends and Friday-Monday from 9:00am to 7:30pm, earning $33-$36+ per hour with shift differential, and play a key role in keeping machines running safely and efficiently while upholding GMP standards.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of maintenance experience in high-volume manufacturing or food production.
• Solid knowledge of electrical systems (PLC, VFD, and A/C drives), hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical repair.
• Experience with welding (ARC, MIG, TIG) and light fabrication preferred.
• Ability to operate shop equipment (mill, lathe, brake, press, etc.).
• Skilled at reading blueprints and troubleshooting control systems.
• Familiar with 5S, Lean principles, and preventive maintenance programs.
• Proven ability to work independently and respond quickly to urgent repairs.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on production and packaging equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues across the facility.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, and component replacements.
• Support start-ups, changeovers, and equipment setup and teardown during production runs.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Complete accurate, legible maintenance logs and reports in the CMMS system (SAP).
• Follow all safety and GMP standards, including Lockout/Tagout, PPE, and food safety policies.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and assist with continuous improvement initiatives.
• Communicate equipment status and repair priorities with supervisors and incoming shifts.
