Job summary

The YMCA of Southern Maine seeks a Leader on Duty for weekend operations at our Portland location. You will provide on-site leadership, assist with safety, and serve as the contact for staff, members, and emergencies when other leadership is unavailable.

Ideal candidates have strong de-escalation and crisis management skills, with experience in mental health or high public-contact settings. CSI: Welcome, equity, and inclusion are core to our approach.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service, problem-solving, and verbal communication are essential.
• Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with de-escalation, trauma-informed practices, or high public-contact roles preferred.
• Background check and fingerprinting required as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible, on-shift leadership and respond to incidents and facility needs.
• Engage members with empathy; model trauma-informed, equity-centered practices.
• Conduct facility walkthroughs, support safety and cleanliness, document incidents.
