Job summary

UC San Diego Health System Sterile Processing Department (SPD) supervisor on the weekend evening shift reports to the SPD manager and collaborates with perioperative nursing leadership at Jacobs Medical Center and its twenty-two operating rooms.

The role supervises SPD staff, coordinates schedules, ensures sterile processing protocols are followed, and provides input on personnel matters. It supports OR readiness and maintains instrument decontamination and sterilization processes.

Qualifications

• Seven+ years of SPD experience or a Bachelor's + 3 years SPD experience. Experience supervising staff and managing complex workflows.
• Experience supervising staff, assigning work, handling priorities, and ensuring quality.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word and Teams; prior preceptor/trainer experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and schedules the daily activities of subordinate central sterile staff, overseeing work quality and productivity.
• Trains subordinates on sterile processing procedures and provides daily guidance and direction.
• Develops unit schedule to meet supply and service needs; communicates with management on productivity and quality improvements.
• Oversees SPD inventory and routine maintenance of equipment.
• Identifies and troubleshoots equipment performance issues and determines need for service/repairs.
• Participates in hiring decisions and personnel matters.
