Job summary

Concern Housing is seeking a Weekend Cook to be directly responsible for food preparation and to maintain sanitation and cleanliness of the kitchen. The role is part-time with weekend hours, located at Rochester Ave. Brooklyn, NY, offering $20/hr.

Responsibilities include following recipes, maintaining records, controlling waste, and ensuring proper temperature control. Requires 2+ years in varied kitchen positions and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years in varied kitchen positions (including food prep, line cook, fry cook, expediter).
• At least 6 months experience in a similar capacity.
• Able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room staff and guests.
• Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and portion food according to recipes and standards.
• Complete required paperwork (forms, reports, schedules) in a timely manner.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and equipment.
• Monitor food costs and waste; follow storage procedures and recipes.
• Ensure compliance with agency policies and report issues to the program director.
• Maintain cleaning schedules for kitchen areas and equipment.

Description

Concern Housing is seeking a Weekend Cook to be directly responsible for food preparation and to maintain sanitation and cleanliness of the kitchen.

Days/Hours:Saturday; 11am – 6pm & Sunday; 9:30am – 6pm (15.5 hrs.)

Responsibilities Inlcude but are not limited to

• Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards.
• Prepare all required paperwork, including forms, reports and schedules in an organized and timely manner.
• Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the agency’s maintenance policies and procedures.
• Control food cost and usage by following proper requisition of products from storage areas, product storage procedures, standard recipes and waste control procedures.
• Be knowledgeable of agency policies regarding personnel and report any concerns/problems to program director.
• Responsible for maintaining appropriate cleaning schedules for kitchen floors, mats, walls, hoods, other equipment and food storage areas.
• Check and maintain proper food holding and refrigeration temperature control points.
• Ensure open communication with full time Cook when ingredients are running low or if there is any feedback from clients.
• Responsible for ensuring all scheduled cleaning is completed.
• Remain current with all Agency required compliance documents and trainings.

Requirements: A minimum of 2-years’ experience in varied kitchen positions including food preparation, line cook, fry cook and expediter along with at least 6-months experience in a similar capacity. Must be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room personnel and guests and be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 lbs. Must have availability to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
