Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) invites motivated students to join the Weapon System Engineer (Analyst) - Intern role. You will work with senior engineers to analyze complex systems, learn MBSE practices, and support multi-disciplinary teams advancing future deterrence platforms.

You will gain hands-on experience in requirements, interfaces and system models while developing deep weapon-system expertise and preparing for a security-clearance process.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in engineering, CS, physics, applied math or related field.
  • Strong problem solving, quantitative analysis and clear technical communication.
  • Interest in learning systems engineering principles and MBSE methods.
  • Growth mindset with curiosity, adaptability and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Join multidisciplinary teams applying whole-system engineering to deterrence platforms.
  • Perform system/sub-system analyses and provide data-driven design input.
  • Learn how weapon systems are tested, operated and maintained in context.
  • Develop understanding of requirements, interfaces and capabilities in systems engineering.
  • Use models, simulations and MBSE tools under senior guidance.
