Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Weapon System Analyst to transform complex physics problems into rigorous mathematical and computational models. You will develop high-fidelity inertial navigation and missile dynamics models, design tests, and validate parameters using real-world data.

The role requires a physics- or math-heavy background, strong programming in C++, MATLAB, or Python, and the ability to obtain interim Secret clearance with US citizenship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Applied Math, Applied Statistics, Engineering, or closely related field.
  • 1+ years of professional experience in data analysis or physics-based modeling.
  • Strong foundation in C++, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date; eligibility for Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine physics models for inertial navigation and missile dynamics.
  • Lead experimental design for tests to optimize data collection for validation and parameter estimation.
  • Perform statistical validation using real-world data to assess model accuracy.
  • Apply advanced statistical techniques to identify physical properties or errors from observed data.
  • Build computational tools in C++, MATLAB, or Python to support reports and deliverables.
  • Assess the accuracy of current weapon systems and support future system development.
