Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD is seeking a Weapons Systems Test Engineer to lead testing for advanced strike weapon systems. You will provide systems test engineering expertise to guide test strategy, plan and execute tests, and analyze results for credible verification.

This role supports rapid prototyping, system integration, field experiments and flight tests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or related field.
  • 3+ years of systems test engineering in weapon/missile development cycles.
  • Ability to work on multiple complex tasks independently.
  • High initiative with willingness to develop new skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and critical thinking.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams with sponsors.
  • Willing to travel 15–20% to sponsor and test sites.
  • Able to obtain Interim Secret and Top Secret/SCI clearances; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to multi-disciplinary teams focusing on requirements, development, test planning and evaluation.
  • Assess weapon system requirements, architecture and test implications.
  • Develop test strategy and objectives for ground/flight tests and simulations.
  • Create test plans and schedules for ground and flight tests.
  • Evaluate performance predictions and flight test feasibility.
  • Coordinate test resources with facilities, personnel and stakeholders.
  • Analyze results to identify deficiencies and propose improvements.
  • Deliver presentations and reports to sponsors with technical recommendations.
