Job summary

Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, is hiring a System Operator Trainee in the Hawthorn Woods area to support water and wastewater facilities. Under supervision, you will install, operate, and maintain equipment across our water/wastewater systems and assist with customer service needs.

The role requires a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license; a water or wastewater license is pursued within 24 months.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or Equivalent).
• Experience with industrial mechanical systems and/or pumps preferred.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License; CDL is a plus.
• Trainees must progress to System Operator I within 24 months with a Class D water license OR Class 4 wastewater license as issued by the Illinois EPA.

Responsibilities

• Operate/maintain wastewater treatment facilities, lagoons, lift stations and collection systems.
• Operate/maintain water treatment plants, wells, pumping and storage facilities as needed.
• Operate/maintain vehicles and equipment used in water and wastewater facilities.
• Perform/record inspections and tests on operations; review related data.
• Collect, analyze, and record water and wastewater samples for regulatory compliance and process control.
• Prepare reports for the Company, IEPA, ICC or other entities.
• Respond to customer service, water distribution and/or collection system work orders.
• Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.
