Job summary

Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, seeks a System Operator Trainee in the Hawthorn Woods/Lake County area to support the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities, with customer service exposure as needed. Under the supervision of the Field Supervisor, you’ll install, operate, and inspect treatment equipment, collect samples, prepare reports, and follow IEPA and ICC requirements.

This is a union position with a starting wage of $35.00/hr; trainees advance to System Operator

Qualifications

High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
Experience with industrial mechanical systems and/or pumps preferred.
Valid U.S. Driver’s License; CDL is a plus.
Trainees must progress to System Operator I within 24 months with Illinois EPA licenses (Class D water or Class 4 wastewater).

Responsibilities

Operate/maintain wastewater and water facilities, equipment, lift stations, and collection systems.
Collect, analyze, and record water/wastewater samples for compliance and process control.
Prepare reports for the Company and regulatory agencies (IEPA, ICC).
Respond to customer service, water distribution, and/or collection work orders.
Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.
