Job summary

The University of Florida, located on the Main Campus in Gainesville, seeks a facilities operator to run the Water Production and Wastewater Treatment facilities, ensuring safe operation and discharge compliance.

Required is a high school diploma or equivalent with experience; Florida Class C wastewater operator’s certificate is required. The role includes rotating shifts, on-call duties and a post-offer health assessment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and one year of appropriate experience; vocational/technical training may substitute for the required experience.
• Possession of a current Class C wastewater operator's certificate per Florida statutes/regulations.
• Ability to operate water/wastewater facilities and monitor/adjust processes.
• Post-offer health assessment and criminal background check required.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Water Production Facility and/or Wastewater Treatment Facility safely and maintain discharge compliance.
• Record instrumentation readings, review data and take corrective action.
• Perform laboratory sample collection/analysis and act on results.
• Monitor facility systems and switch between automatic and manual operation as needed.
• Perform maintenance tasks on equipment, perform cleaning and painting, and operate sludge de-watering equipment.
• Provide tours to the public, students and faculty.
