Job summary

The City of Johnson City in Tennessee is seeking a Water/Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic I for the Water and Sewer department. This role handles intermediate skilled mechanical tasks in maintenance and repair of water treatment and wastewater facilities and pumping stations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some experience in water/sewer equipment maintenance.
• Must understand mechanical and electrical repair principles and safety precautions.
• Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.

Responsibilities

• performs preventive maintenance on utility booster stations, reservoirs, pressure valves and related equipment;
• installs, operates, maintains and repairs mechanical equipment at the wastewater, water treatment, pumping stations and reservoirs;
• pulls deep well pumps, repairs and reinstalls them, repairs all types of centrifugal water pumps, installs bearings and shafts in electrical motors, repairs air compressors and packs valves;
• renews bearing seals and installs air lines;
• assists in the maintenance and repair of plant machinery and equipment such as pumps, and chemical feeders, and installs and replaces new gauges and pressure switches on panels when necessary;
• inspects pumping stations as required for proper operation and repair as needed;
• troubleshoot electric motor controls;
• must be able to mow and run a weed eater;
• paints facilities and equipment as required;
• performs related tasks as required.
