Job summary

The City of Johnson City seeks a Water/Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic I to perform intermediate skilled mechanical tasks in maintenance and repair of water and wastewater facilities. Work includes installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of pumps, motors, valves, gauges and related equipment at treatment plants and pumping stations.

Under supervision, duties involve inspecting equipment, troubleshooting controls and supporting plant machinery maintenance.

Qualifications

Self-motivated with general knowledge of maintenance and repair practices.
Ability to interpret sketches, plans and diagrams; understand oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues; skilled in tool and equipment care.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance on utility booster stations, reservoirs, valves and related equipment.
Install, operate, maintain and repair mechanical equipment at wastewater plants, pumping stations and reservoirs.
Repair pumps, bearings, shafts, motors, air compressors and valves as needed.
Renew bearing seals and install air lines; replace gauges and pressure switches as necessary.
Inspect pumping stations for proper operation and perform needed repairs.
Troubleshoot electric motor controls; maintain areas including mowing and weed trimming.
