Job summary

Tennessee American Water in Chattanooga, TN is seeking a Master Mechanic to maintain and repair machinery, electrical systems, piping and related equipment in water treatment and pumping facilities. You will perform routine inspections and repairs to ensure safe, reliable service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency is required.
• Vocational training or in-plant experience in maintenance is required.
• Attendance at company or external training classes as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, structures, piping, and electrical systems in water treatment and pumping facilities.
• Constantly visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
• Constantly listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and discusses variations with supervisors.
• Constantly dismantles defective machines and installs new or repaired parts.
• Constantly cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Constantly installs and repairs electrical apparatus such as transformers, wiring, components of machinery and equipment.
• Assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic/pneumatic equipment; repairs gauges, valves, and regulators.
• Occasionally operates machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, and fixtures.
• Occasionally operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
