Job summary

Burgess & Niple in Akron, OH invites a Water/Wastewater Civil Engineering Co-op to join our team for hands-on experience in water and wastewater projects. You’ll work with both early career and experienced engineers to learn design, inspection, and analysis across sewers, mains, lift stations, and treatment facilities.

As a student, you’ll develop technical skills and problem-solving abilities, working on site inspections, AutoCAD/REVIT learning, and collaboration with a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate student in civil or environmental engineering enrolled in ABET-accredited program with at least one year of coursework completed.
• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs for field work and site inspections.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn PDF markup tools.
• Interest in learning AutoCAD or REVIT; direct experience is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication; collaborative mindset.
• Availability to work full-time for Summer of 2027 semester.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record; some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Be part of project team under supervision of Professional Engineers on Akron sewer systems.
• Perform manhole inspections and document findings for municipal infrastructure.
• Locate manholes, photograph sites, and assess infiltration and cracks.
• Gain field and office experience through hands-on design and analysis.
