Job summary

Union County Water Department is seeking an entry-level Utility Technician I to perform maintenance and repair of water/sewer systems under general supervision. The role includes installing taps, locating lines, hydrant maintenance, valve exercises, and operating heavy equipment.

You will assist with safety training, on-call rotations, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, and ability to obtain Class A CDL within 12 months, plus state water/sewer

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
• Must obtain a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of hire.
• Ability to obtain the appropriate State water and/or sewer certifications, as well as, industry standard training and certifications, including, but not limited to, NC DOT approved flagger safety training, Federal OSHA excavation requirements including competent person, confined space.
• Employment pre-placement Drug and/or Alcohol test required for this position.
• Six (6) months of related experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Install and repair water/sewer taps and locate water/sewer lines.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Operate heavy equipment and pumps; conduct valve exercises.
• Inspect and maintain water pressure and quality; collect water samples.
• Record PMs and work orders; complete tasks in the work order system.
• Assist in on-call rotations and night shifts as required.
• Maintain safety and comply with regulations; participate in safety trainings.
