Job summary

City of Garland seeks a lead water systems operator to maintain the water distribution system and oversee 24/7 dispatch operations for water utility trouble calls. The role also handles municipal 311 after-hours calls and coordination with the municipal HR contact.

Responsibilities include supervising junior operators, maintaining optimal pressures, monitoring inflow/outflow and tank levels, and providing round-the-clock support for wastewater and after-hours dispatch for the municipality.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus relevant licenses (Class C Water Distribution, Class II Wastewater) or equivalent.
• 5 years experience or 5–7 years as Water Systems Operator preferred.
• Knowledge of water system operations, dispatch operations, and municipal governance.

Responsibilities

• Lead system operator with supervisory oversight of junior staff.
• Support evening and late night operations with decision making.
• Maintain optimal water pressure across city.
• Monitor inflow/outflow, tank levels, and pressures.
• Provide 24/7 water utility dispatch and support.
• Provide after-hour non-emergency municipal dispatch support.
