Job summary

City of Amarillo is seeking a Utility Technician to support the Surface Water Treatment unit. Under supervision, you will perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment used in the water treatment plant.

Responsibilities include assisting mechanics with preventative maintenance, seasonal grounds work, wash-down of treatment basins, and logging daily hours. The role requires physical work outdoors and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; valid Texas Driver’s License required.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and handle basic hand/power tools.
• Ability to read and write English; communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Assists the mechanics in preventive maintenance and yearly inspections.
• Performs seasonal grounds maintenance and irrigation-system operation/maintenance.
• Wash-down of basins, basins, flumes and wet wells in the treatment facility.
• Prepares and logs daily paperwork and hours on job reports.
• Unlocks and prepares the building/work area; locks up after shift.
• Performs housekeeping duties as assigned.
• Paints buildings and equipment as assigned.
• Responds to overtime and callbacks as workload requires.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
