The City of Amarillo is seeking a Utility Maintenance Mechanic I to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks in water production facilities and grounds, including wells, pumping stations, and tanks. Under general supervision, you may supervise a small crew and must work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather; this position is weather essential personnel.

Under general supervision of the Water Production Supervisor, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled task in the servicing and maintenance of equipment and grounds in well fields, all pumping facilities, storage tanks and other appurtenances. May supervise a small crew of utility workers and/or seasonal employees. Implements and insures use of safety programs and safety equipment. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends,, holidays, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.
Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and one year of relevant maintenance experience preferred. Must obtain and maintain a Class “D” Water Operators License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one year of hire date. Class “A” Commercial Drivers License with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements preferred. Valid driver’s license. Education in Industrial Maintenance preferred. Incumbent shall have a working telephone for after hours call back.
