Job summary

The City of Amarillo is seeking a Utility Maintenance Mechanic I to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks in water production facilities and grounds, including wells, pumping stations, and tanks. Under general supervision, you may supervise a small crew and must work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather; this position is weather essential personnel.

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with preference for relevant maintenance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; maintenance experience preferred.
• Obtain Class D Water Operator License within one year of hire.
• CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements preferred; valid license required.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled maintenance on equipment and grounds in well fields, pumping facilities, tanks and appurtenances.
• Assist Utility Maintenance Mechanic II with inspection and servicing of pumps, motors, valves, and chemical feed equipment.
• Maintain safety programs, records, and participate in preventive maintenance.
• Operate light equipment and trucks, back trailers, and follow written and oral instructions.
• Work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays; weather essential personnel as needed.
