Job summary

The City of Show Low is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support outdoor infrastructure and public systems. This role offers progression from Technician to Technician II with training and development to advance your career.

You will inspect and repair water and street utility equipment, maintain records, respond to service calls, operate light to medium machinery, and work safely as part of a crew on construction and maintenance projects.

Qualifications

  • Valid Arizona Driver's License and ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License within six months.
  • ATSSA or LTAP Flagger or Work zone training or certified within 6 months of employment.
  • Attainment of ADEQ operator grade 1 certification within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and repairs water, wastewater, streets, and utility systems and equipment to ensure proper function.
  • Maintains records related to inspections and maintenance activities.
  • Determines locations of gas, telephone, power, water, and sewer lines prior to excavation.
  • Responds to complaints and communicates findings to supervisors.
  • Operates light- to medium-sized vehicles and equipment for street and utility maintenance.
  • Performs construction/maintenance tasks as part of a crew and observes safety rules.

Job description

The City is seeking a dedicated and motivated Maintenance Technician to join our team and help keep our community’s essential infrastructure running smoothly. Inspects and/or repairs chlorine machine, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage systems and sewer systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.

Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc

Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation

Responds to complaints regarding water, wastewater, and road problems; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor.

Contacts residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explains when services will be shut off and how soon they will be turned back on.

Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment/tools and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.

Operates light and medium-sized vehicles, construction, and power equipment, such as mechanized broom, jetter/inductor truck, backhoe/loader, excavators, skid steers, man-lift, dump truck and snowplows

Operates jackhammers, mowers and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems

Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including but not limited to pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling, installation, and maintenance of traffic control devices.

Performs all duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards. Ensures all applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes

Participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental and workgroup goals and objectives. Exhibits a high-level service orientation toward customers and maintains productive working relationships

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned

These requirements must be met to move into the Maintenance Technician series positions.

  1. Valid Arizona Drivers License and ability to obtain ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License within six (6) months of employment.
  2. ATSSA or LTAP Flagger or Work zone current training or certified within 6 months of employment.
  3. Streets, Water and Wastewater Employees
    1. Attainment of ADEQ operator grade 1 certification in area specified by department (i.e., Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Water Distribution) within twelve (12) months of employment.
